Goal-Driven: Embracing Team Spirit with uTrack’s Euro Football Sweepstake

At uTrack, fostering a strong company culture and promoting team-building activities are core to our values. Our recent Euro Football Sweepstake was a fantastic example of this, bringing our team together in a fun and competitive spirit.

As the Euros approached, we organised a virtual team call where everyone chipped in £10 to a collective prize pool. Using a random selection process, each participant was assigned one team. This element of chance added to the excitement, with everyone awaiting the draw and hoping for a team that would lead them to victory.

Participants and Prizes

Enthusiastic team members took part, each filled with hope that their team might bring home the trophy. Beyond the grand prize of £100 for the winning team’s supporter, we had several other fun rewards to keep the excitement going:

First Prize: The supporter of the winning team took home £100.

Second Prize: A charming German Euro 2024 mascot, Albärt, brought back from Berlin by our CEO, Eamonn Hughes, which ended up with our only German team member.

Third Prize: A £10 consolation prize for the team that performed the worst, based on points, goal difference, and disciplinary records. This went to our CTO and Co-Founder Conor Gildea, whose team was Scotland.

Additional Fun Awards:

  • First Own Goal: Germany’s own goal against Scotland earned its supporter an extra £10.
  • First Penalty Shootout Loss: Although traditionally a likely candidate, England avoided this fate under Sir Gareth Southgate’s leadership.
  • Goal of the Tournament: This prestigious £10 award, decided by the BBC, went to Spanish prodigy Lamine Yamal for his stunning goal.
  • Worst Haircut: Voted on by our team, this lighthearted category was won by a Romanian player, affectionately nicknamed Bluey for his poorly executed dye job.

The Results

The ultimate winner, with Spain emerging victorious and Yamal scoring the best goal, was one of our veteran team members, an ardent football fan since the 1966 World Cup. Though he confessed he would have preferred an England victory, the prize money was a welcome consolation.

This sweepstake was more than just a competition; it was a unifying force within uTrack. It generated lively banter, hilarious GIF exchanges, and passionate football discussions. It was an opportunity for our Birmingham and Dublin offices to connect, celebrate, and engage in friendly rivalry.

As we look forward to future events, this sweepstake has reaffirmed the importance of such activities in strengthening our team spirit. Here’s to more such memorable moments at uTrack. Until next time, Viva España and thanks a lot to our fabulous organisers Parm and Marco!
