Picture the scene it is a rather cold and drab Monday morning after a particularly good and relaxing weekend. There I am getting ready for another happy day at the coal face when from right out of the blue I receive an email from a very good friend of mine who runs an excellent Bus and Coach Company.

I open the email and a big grin spreads across my old boat race as the cockneys call a face. The email announces that DeCourcey Travel based just down the road from me in Coventry have just been awarded a Queen’s award for Enterprise in Sustainable Development 2017. The Queen’s awards are the UK’s most prestigious business awards that celebrate excellence and outstanding achievements in business.

In addition in the 51 year history of the Queen’s awards that are always announced on the Queens birthday it appears that DeCourcey Travel are the only bus and coach Company ever to receive such an accolade. I have known Adrian DeCourcey the MD and his dad Mike DeCourcey for over thirty years. They are good guys who run a real family run business.

It is a real tribute to their vision that they have been awarded with this honour, as they are truly market leading when it comes to showing  a strong record of growth innovation and sustainable development. I have seen close up just how hard Adrian and his family have worked recently against some very real and tough challenges that have repeatedly overcome.

The family have been a key employer in the region for over half a decade and it is a great tribute that they are the first ever bus and Coach Company to receive the most respected and prestigious award that this great nation has to offer. It could not happen to nicer people and I am delighted for them all, and hope that they enjoy their day with Her majesty at Buckingham Palace in the summer.
