I was fortunate enough this week to attend a really good meeting with some inspiring people, it was called to assess options for the Chartered Institute of Logistics and Transport to sponsor the Young Manager Award of both events. This is something that CILT have done for eight years now and it underpins their serious commitment to helping to recognize,reward, and inspire, the next generation of future leaders.
It was very clear that under the new management team of Kevin Richardson as CEO, and Richard Armitage as Director of Comms and PR at CILT, there is now a clear strategy and momentum gathering pace that has encouraging young professionals at the very heart of its philosophy which is absolutely right. Indeed I can not think of a more appropriate award to sponsor as both organizations are aligned completely.
The truth is that young people starting their careers need to understand the very real benefits of membership and networking, and there is nothing wrong with people wanting to improve their careers, in addition there is also the added benefit that CILT can offer with sharing best practice for example the transport and logistics industry have a great scheme called NOVUS.
What has happened is that 30 of the top HGV Companies have teamed up with 3 universities to offer a 12 month work placement for students doing transport based qualifications.In addition if the student achieves a 2.2 or above then they are guaranteed a job with one of the Companies. I believe that this is an excellent idea and it is the sort of initiative that we as a bus and coach community should be looking to replicate and the UKBA team have a real part to play in instigating such good initiatives as well as many others.
So good on you Richard and CILT this is truly worthy initiative and you are to be applauded for your vision.
